Banished Review
Banished is a city builder game. It contains your bare bones city builder features such as resource collection and placing buildings.
However, Banished is a city builder with balls. It is extremely difficult to not only get proper food production up and running, but it also requires immense skill and practice to keep a town running for more than a couple of years.
It took numerous attempts to achieve getting past the first few years, but at the time of writing, I have achieved reaching year 20. I have basic farming infrastructure in place that is keeping everything in my town running smoothly food wise. I have a quarry and a mine, but both quickly became a hassle to maintain and, thanks to villagers dying of old age, have been difficult to sustain enough people to run them. However, thanks to trading, I have enough to keep my workers stocked with steel tools rather than iron ones.
The game developer has released a statement on his website saying that a modding API and Steam Workshop support are in the works and are scheduled to be released in the next update, so the re-playability of the game will substantially increase as time goes on. Once the API has been released, expect an update to this review
Where this game really suffers, despite all the good things about it, is in its learning curve. It is a very difficult game to understand fully, despite the included guide in the game. The tutorials need major working as they fail to truly explain the game and instead tell you what tasks require what building.
For now, I judge this game worthy of , distributed as follows:
  • Gameplay:
  • Re-playability:
  • Enjoyment:
  • Learning Curve:
